LS1/Muncie
LS1/Muncie I am new to standard transmissions. I have searched but cannot understand the results, if anyone has some free time & would like to link me to all that is necessary to use a muncie 4spd with a LS1 (1999), that would be GREAT.
Also, if using an A4 LS1 computer, will I need to tune or rewire anything?

They will bolt up without an adapter...although, the SM-465 bellhousing has 7 holes, but you'll only be using 6, because one won't match up. Not a problem. I THINK that you'll need a Gen. III or later flywheel, and you should be able to use the original clutch.
You'll also run into problems with the speedo and VSS. New cross-member for the motor/tranny, new motor mounts...and you'll run into little things on the way.
Oh yeah, this swap has been done more than several times. It's pretty popular in the rock-crawling world. Go to google and type in "LS1 to SM465," or something along those lines, and see what that brings up. Good luck.

Get yourself a 6 speed manual and you will not experience all the headaches that your are headed for with a Muncie...the six speed is much stronger not mention much more user friendly at the gas pump ... that way you will not be driving down the highway at 65 mph @ 2500 rpms..

I really don't see the point of this either. Even in its day, it was a very poorly engineered transmission. The biggest issue is how flimsy the case is. There is a company that makes upgraded cases, but when you consider the cost compared to a TKO600 or a T56; the muncie is simply not worth it.
