Alternator Question

Alternator Question Got a questions for the guys doing swaps. You may not have done my particular swap but may still be able to answer my questions. Swapping a 2003 LS6 into my 78' Datsun. On the stock datsun the alternator is not internally regulated. The 12v output on it runs to a 60 amp fusible link, then on to the battery positive post. In my buddies 5.3 liter chevy pickup which i believe uses the same type alternator as the LSx, the 12v output goes to a post and then onto the battery. Do i need to put that 12v output to a fuse then on to the alternator, or can i run it straight from the alternator to the positive battery post?
You can run it straight to the battery, but adding fuse or fusible link will keep things from catching fire if something shorts out.
WalMart sells these in line fuse holders designed for high amp stereos. I didn't like the WalMart ones so I ordered something from an on line car stereo place. Bolted it to the fender of my 70 Datsun right near the alternator.
Use a fuse that matches the amp rating of your alternator.
Cheap insurance.

The way we kinda have it set up now is a 12volt running to a max fuse block then running power off the fuses. Just were not quite sure yet how we were gonna set up the alternator.
