69 camaro swap questions. I currently have a 69 camaro that i have been thinking of putting a ls1 in. I have access to a 6.0 longblock and a 454 vortec long block. Both are really cheap and i was wondering if any one has ever modded a 454 vortec with any success. I am definately a bbc fan but am very impressed with the performance of the ls1's. Can anyone help me decide? Thanks

Re: 69 camaro swap questions. I have a 454 Vortec in my daily driver Caprice wagon, and I've even had a 502/502 EFI in the thing, but for OVERALL power, smoothness, and high tech horsepower, I think I'd do the 6.0 if I were you. You'll absolutely love it!
People are always saying they can make twice the power for half the money with a regular SBC, but you CAN'T. You can't add the engineering advances to the older engines. You can make more power with another engine, but you'll give up a bunch of driveability in the process. It's the overall package that the LS1 style engines offer, and in my opinion it's unbeatable!
My 91 Camaro spanks out 11's on every run, and people say "You can't do that with stock exhaust manifolds", and "OK, where's the nitrous bottle hidden".
They just don't understand until they've tasted it!

Re: 69 camaro swap questions. John, Thanks for the help I was just looking at your sight. Im curious what kind of h.p does you BBC kit support. Ive done a lot of thinking and loosing a little driveability really isnt a big concern. i am really leaning towards a f.i. bbc. And im intrested in the NOS Noszel kit. I have seen good results from f.i. and nitrous. Would your BBC kit support between 875-950 h.p.? Het thanks again for your help.

Re: 69 camaro swap questions. No, the Vortec intake won't support the big numbers. It's more like a TPI for a big block; the runner design enhances the airflow for great low-midrange torque, but the flow starts to fall off then, and limits the high end horsepower.

The fisrt row is the Vortec intake. The rest of the intake setups WILL support the high horsepower numbers and is probably more in line with what you are after.
