Can an LS1 powersteering pump take atf?

the car that the LS1 is going in has a steering rack that specifically calls for ATF, not power steering fluid. I am leaning towards using atf because it will be more expensive to change the rack than to replace the pump.

Very common to use ATF Dextron lll in steering systems of all kinds. The LS1 pump uses it. Everyone that puts a LS1 in another vehicle uses it. A GM transmission, for which Dextron ll & lll was designed, is in the same operating temperature range as your power-steering system, with regards to fluid.
