Am I crazy? Just a thought. I was sitting around last night looking for a wrecked LS1 M6 car to buy so I'd have everything I need to swap the motor and trans into my 87 camaro. For some odd reason the thought of pulling the drivetrain out of my 2001 Z-28 seemed like a good idea. Someone bring me back to reality. My 2001 is a Mint NBM fully loaded Z that I have babied all it's life. My other car, which I actually like more, the 87, has been sitting for four years with no motor waiting on an LS1. The 87 is perfect, it's a fully loaded T-top car with a modded suspension and was my first car. I think the third gen would be funner to drive with the LS1 and 6-speed but I'd hate to hack up a perfect 4th gen to get it done. 
If you guys had an older car which you liked more and had sentimental value would you tear down a newer LS1 camaro to get the old one going? They both are paid for. This is just a thought though.

I would think it would be silly for you to hack up a perfectly nice car to do a motor swap like your suggesting. Just buy the wrecked one like you were thinkin and swap that motor. No need to tear that 01 apart. just my .02 cents

Well, you wouldnt be hacking up the '01. Could always put the motor/trans back in. But, you won't...and what would you do with it? Sell it as a roller? I think youd really be ahead selling the '01 and finidng another LS1/T56 for sure.

Yeah there is no way I could do that. I do like my 01, it's the car I wanted so I'll just keep modding it and find a donor for the third gen. I just need to find a way to justify buying a wrecked LS1 f-body to the wife. Thanks, maybe this malaria medicine is making me think these strange thoughts or maybe it's the bordom of being in Africa. Who knows.
