Default HELP wanted!!!!!! Over Heating at Idle.

I have an LS1 in a 62 Vette with a T56. This is a really great car to drive for anyone considering such a swap. MTI stage 2 heads and cam. 180 degree thermostat. I am using standard diameter pulleys. The heater has a cut off for water flow when the heater is off.

The car runs a 180 to 185 as long as it is moving. If I stop at a red light but keep the revs at 1000 to 1200 the temp goes up to 195 and back to 185 as the fan cycles. The PCM cortrols the fans, come on at 195 and off at 185. BUT, if I let it idle, 700 to 750 RPM, the temp will start to rise and go beyond 195. The fans come on but the temp stays up. As soon as I increase the revs to 1000 or more the temp starts dropping instantly.

I am looking for suggestions. Has anyone else had this problem? What are possible solutions?

I had the same problem. Do you have the heater oulets looped or blocked off. I had mine blocked off and I was overheating at idle. I hear that the heater hoses provide a constant coolant flow over the thermostat.

Why is this a problem? Mine runs at 180 all day long as long as the car is moving. When I play with it in the driveway(PCM tuning etc) it will idle all day long at 225. Well that is because the factory turns the fan on at 230 and it keeps cycling as the temp goes back down to 220 the fan turns off. I do not like the high temps either but that is how it is desinged to work! Someday I will by LS1 Edit and modify the fan turn on temps. But for now I have a toggle switch to turn them on manually if I am stuck in traffic. The PCM still does its job should I forget. Bottom line is do not worry about those temps. No damage is being done. This motor is all aluminum after all.

The heater is connected to a heater. There is a valve that stops hot water flow when the heater is off.

As I said the fan has been reprogramed.

Perhaps maybe the radiator isn't quite efficient enough for what you want maybe??? Most cars out there don't have a hot water valve for the hot coolant so the Heater core acts as a second radiator of sorts I guess you could say cools the coolant alittle all the time even with the heater off. Maybe running it straight through might make a difference. I can't think of anything else really.
