Undecided: LS or SBC
I plan on building another one in the near future that I'm really going to try to keep the weight down on, but I'm undecided on the engine. I'm trying to consider the pro's and con's of a ls vs. 1st gen sbc. and price vs. power. I like the LS because I like the newer design and aluminum block. But I like the sbc because of all these good aftermarket blocks and how much cubes you can get out of them. But an aluminum block is close to $4000.
So help me out with my decision. I'll be starting from scratch. I have no usable parts for either engine. I know if I build a big inch sbc, 434+, I can get close to 600hp. And probably do it for under $10k using a iron block and carb, ad about $5k to that if using an aluminum block and EFI.
So what can I do with and LS-1 to get close to those power levels for around $10k. Remember, I have nothing. So the ls1 price will have to include a cpu of some sort.
Thanks for any advice/opinions.
