Is the solenoid back by the battery? So an ignition wire needs to be run back to the solenoid?

Yes. Just splice into the existing ignition wire. Put a 10A in-line fuse on it and run it to the back. The solenoid has the added advantage of being used as a power center if you need connections for large amps in the trunk. A Ford solenoid for $15 will do the trick.

i actually cant believe some of the things im reading here!!!

this is the best i could do for finding a chart for sizing battery cable......this does not just apply to marine applications
http://www.e-marine-inc.com/products...rs/cables.html

0 or 1/0 battery or welding wire is would be a good start. try to get a fine strand cable.
use the same size ground or larger
unibody cars should get grounds from battery to body, body to engine

framed cars should get grounds from battery to frame AND body, frame to engine
