Default Make My car look like a coupe

Im sure you already have a WTf look on your face.

Now onto my idea...
Sometimes I get coupe envy & I want my car to look like a coupe with a targa top.

Dont ask why or suggest to get a ttop car.

I was thinking of modifying spare parade boot and attaching just the glass part of hatch to it.
Weight is a concern, not sure if the stock hatch weighs but ws6 store sells light weight glass that weighs 11lbs but comes with price tag of almost 400.

What you think? The lines will match the curves of the car or will it even fit.

Think of the Inner side of glass being "superglued to the parade boot.

Seems like it'd have to be anchored pretty good to the car, else it be like a parachute and fly away at speed, taking your boot with it.

Photoshop would help visualize it. Not sure if I'd like it. I'd settle for a coupe wing for the vert.

JOHNYBS - Thats what I was thinking about today.

I guess the ttop cars can manage this since the hatch is attached to the sail panel, which is basically attached the structural part of the roof.

correct me if I'm wrong.

If this idea doesn't work to make the car look targa ..then how far fetched would it be to make a hardtop piece for our cars like the ones available for miata's and corvettes.

I'm digging the hard top idea. If anyone can make it, I'll buy the first one. As long as its not like 2k$ or some crazy **** like that. Make it out of carbon fiber and I'll be your personal assistant for a year. Haha.

Hmmm... let me talk to my body guy and see what he says. If it's going to be a one off or low production run, then the cost might be up there since it's not cheap to build a mold, but I'll see what he says.

Right now he and I are working on an Active Aero for the T/A and since I have a vert, were gonna deff see if we can make it for them too! He has already done a working prototype for the 2010 Camaro using the GTR wing and it's SICK! We're also working on a retro style tail light for the Birds (think 1967) and LeMons style headlights.

I don't want to jack the OP's tread too much, but take a look

Okay... just got off the phone with him and he DIGS the idea! Not sure how much it will be of course, but he's deff in like Flynn! I have an idea in my head on how to do it, but what are you guys thinking?

With what I'm thinking, it can retain the 2 seater roadster look.

My ideas are:

1) Something on the lines of a Noble or Testarossa

OR

2) A split glass like the 63 vette

Not at all, I want this thread for the creativity.
I think the convertible area can be made to look cool ,
(NOT that it being a convertible is not cool enough already).

I would want to see a porsche carrera GT look.

That would be an easy build since RKSports has done a lot of the work to build off of, but still, many would need to commit to such an undertaking. A one off of course is more than doable, but at what price. My buddy and partner in all this, PB (BTW - he's a member here https://ls1tech.com/forums/member.php?u=206284 ) was contracted to do a $20K+ one off convertible on a Doge Charger or Challenger, I forgot which, but his partner at the time dropped the ball and he lost the contract so.... needless to say, his skill are recognized

What about something along the lines of a C5 FRC/Z06 roof?

I guess the toughest thing on this would be get the latch mechanism and window seals right so they match the window glass nicely.

i think the split window vette look would be awesome. but i'm sure for the top you could put the latches that are on the verts for the A pillar.

which thread? If you are referring to the Active Aero, I thought that was somewhat self explanatory, with the help of the video, but none the less.... we plan to R&D an Active Aero wing for the Firebirds, as well as a retro 67 tail light for the birds.

As for your paint job, if you're looking for someone who know's his ****, it's my boy! He is moving into his new shop this weekend and should be ready to rock and roll shortly.
