Question Confused

I have read stickies for an hour now and I'm super confused. I have a 2000 WS6 Convertible with 120,000 miles, and the rear is doing that huge slam noise when I go over big bumps.

My question is: Did our convertibles use the same shocks and springs as a non-convertible car? I want to keep the "WS6" part of it, but not lower the car. I'm an old man now.

The '97 WS6 'verts didn't get the full WS6 suspension package and 17" rims as the coupes, but starting in '98 they did. I'd start looking for something broken back there, or a blown-out suspension bushing that is causing the noise.

Thank you for your reply Johnny. So a Convertible WS6 has the same setup as a non-convertible WS6?

I checked last night and the bump stop on the passenger side is broken. The big kaboom sound usually only happens when my two daughters, all 150 lbs total, sit in the back seat. Would that be the springs if the little bit of extra weight in the back makes it break a bump stop?

The car is not lowered.

Thank you

Any extra weight, even 100 pounds, doesn't help but that's not really the issue if something is broken. You don't have to lower anything, just get the broken parts fixed. I've owned my 'vert since it was new and I've replaced the bump stops already just because they were old and looked rough, yet I have half your mileage. Replace the shocks if you need as well. Could make a world of difference if they are the originals with all those miles.

From '98-'02, yes. The '97 WS6 'verts used the non-WS6 springs, shocks, sways and wheels.

For sure if you have a broken bump stop, that'd make a bang when you bottom out.

Check your bushings like sway, lca but this loud bump you speak of is your bumpstops.
i have same sound and I basically have none left 🤣.
Otherwise all my suspension is all aftermarket upgrade.
