My car is in really nice driver shape for. a 125K, accept my top is worn. If I have to drive with the top up, the car stays in the garage. I'm not looking to do a 1500-2K top. This dye got a ton of great reviews, I'm thinking it'll definitely only be an improvement. Any thoughts? Sorry for the size.
Dyes need to be applied professionally IMO or they look 'washed' or 'streaky' which appears amateurish and regrettable. I'd rather leave it in that original condition than have a look that makes you or others grimace. It's clear you don't want to spend big $$$ on the top but have you checked with local shops that perhaps charge a few hundred dollars?? Maybe that's dreaming. I've never asked.
I think back to the first generation Mopar E-bodies where so many attempted dye jobs on the door panels and dashes. The results were pretty bad in 95% of the attempts and owners wished they left it alone. Poor work makes the car look like the owner doesn't care and I would hate to be the owner of one. My '74 Cuda needed it done but I left it alone and was able to live with it..The funds never seem available for professional work I've learned over the decades that car ownership is worth the extra expense unless it hurts your family with the basics.
If you do try it, I wish you the best. You could always get that new top after your effort if it looks bad.

That is an absolute possibility. Thankfully, my car is rarely used with the top up. I have plans for my other car to take up my discretionary money this spring. I may try this dye, if it doesn't work, then I guess I'll bite the bullet and buy a top next spring.
