Top up without a doubt. It's still fun to spank people with the top down though, not that I would ever spank anyone on the street because street racing is bad.

well brother, just to give u an idea, the time posted in my sig was before lid and ported throttle body, and that was my best! also i have the stock 3.23s in the back and i wieghed my car that day and it was over 3800 pounds with me in it, and i raced my buddies 98 ss m6 (mines an a4) and beat him 3 out of 5 times and he wieghed in at 3500+ pounds! He had 3.42 gears in the back!

lol, i know for a fact its faster with top up and windows up.
i used to race my vert with the top down.. good 2 to 3 tenths diff...

nowdays, the redneck country tracks wont even let me go down with the top down.... im too fast... but i used to be slow enough that i could get away with it.(in all honesty, none of the good tracks would ever let me run with the top down either... )

No with my top up I can run faster. With a Toneau cover it might be different cause all of that air is not catching on the back seat. I don't know. I have only gone to 115 cause I didn't want to tempt fate that bad but I know that top up is faster. I live in AZ (land of the 115 degree average summer day) my top is up for most days out of the year. It does drop if I am cruising or if it is nice out.

I have NEVER been able to run at a track with the top down. They made me leave until I had a helmet.

i dont know if it applies to 4thgens..

but on our 3rdgens, if you were to put your arm up with your elbow on the top of the door sill, and your hand on the top of the windshield... and then drive, you'll find that it starts to lean back around 120.. and when you get up in the 130 area, you can SEE how much its leaning back...

needless to say, when i saw the windshield coming back while im driving triple digits, that scared the **** out of me.

when the cage goes in, i'll have it bracing the windshield frame... until then, i try to keep it below 110..lol

i think top down might be a tad slower but not by much. i ran a ws6 m6 t-top when all i had was a cutout. and from about a 65 mph roll i pulled away from him. slowly. and he never gained on me. in the end i had about a car inbetween us till about 100. where i let off. and i was still slowly pulling.

have any of you felt how hard the wind is hitting your back seat at 100+

your car is a lot of slower with the top down...

Try running with top up/windows up, but crack the window about 1/2"...equalizes the pressure, and the top won't balloon nearly as much...'Course, at the strip, they'll frown on that...

I agree with the general concensus here. In a quick race to the speed limit (or just beyond) probably not too much of difference, but the longer/faster the race the more drag will slow you down with top down.
