Default roll cage/bar question

i am going to need a roll bar or cage soon, so what is the difference between a roll cage and roll bar. i know the cage has more tubing and is more intracate.

should i get a 6 or 8 point. i know most tracks require verts to have at least a 5 point, right? Keeping the back seats isn't a must but it would be nice.

where do you recommend getting it also? i saw a 6 point for 220 on jegs.

i would recommend any of the wolf roll bars, get them jigged with swingouts and i would get a removeable center bar, which isnt legal, but i dont care, i dont want my passengers cracking there heads opens...

IMO, once you install any roll bar, the back seat is useless. You can leave it in, but only midget contortionists could get in. Or you'd have to put the top down and let your pals climb in over the trunk. Swing out side bars are nice though.

When you say 8 point, where are you putting the two extra mounts? The little diagonals from the main hoop to the floor above the frame are nice but not real necessary as long as you're not in a real high HP situation.

OK then, if you have an automatic and don't use a trans brake, the 6 pt. should do just fine. The extra 2 points are usually a brace running from the main hoop vertical section down to the floor near where the rear suspension mounts. It helps transfer the violent hit of a serious race car to the bar/cage as well as the frame.

In a convertible, running a 10 pt. cage over a bar is desireable as a convertible chassis is far more flexible. But again, if you're running your basic street/strip car, it's not needed. I'd imagine you'd need to be running at least low 11s with a stick or a trans brake and slicks to need a 10 pt. cage or even an 8 pt bar.

a 4pt is basically the main hoop + the 2 bars going to the back.
a 6pt will have 1 bar on each side along the doors.
8pt on a vert is too much... It's a cage... no longer a rollbar.

I have a 4-pt... if I would do it again, I would get at least a 5-pt, if not a 6-pt.

I have a 6 point and love it. I have no problems getting in and out. It does not have the swing outs. And its cool cause you cant see it with the top up, but then you put the top down and its like "What the Hell!!".

Does any have a bolt in 4 or 6 point for road racing, not drag racing?

My local road race course has mandated rollbars in conv's and I'm either gonna sell my car for a hardtop, or install a bar that can be removed when needed. ANy ideas would be helpful.

Call and check with KTS Race Cars. They are a sponsor and did an awesome job on a convertible not to long ago.

Talk to Dave, my car is there now!
