Anyone done this (stereo question)? I searched the FAQ, and couldn't find this...
as anyone retained the Monsoon head unit, and gone with an aftermarket amp and speakers?
I like the fact that no one will steal a Monsoon head unit, but I hate the Monsoon speakers.
So, has anyone done this? Is it even doable?

I've kept my stock HU for the same reason, theft deterrent. 
My '98 'vert doesn't have the "Monsoon" HU (which made it easy to adapt a sub, and eventually better speakers / amp). However others have kept the Monsoon HU and added aftermarket speakers / amps. There are various ways of doing this, although I'm not much help there since I haven't done one myself. Check in the stereo/electronics threads.
