I took mine out.

I have all the diagrams for the convertible's monsoon system. The changer is installed on a piece of metal welded in one spot on a shelf in the trunk. The molex connector runs into the flap to the top's motor bypass. It might not be as mindless as you might think.

I bought a year or so ago and installed it. Here's a sketch of the OEM brackets and where the CD player is located. The plug is right by the inside of the fender taped to the wire harness.

My CD changer came with the side brackets. I bought the long brackets from the dealer. Click here for picture: Long Bracket
Those brackets are unpainted and are normally welded in place. I screwed mine down under the "carpet", and cut slots to expose the studs and uprights.

I understand that older 4th gens may not have the wire harness preinstalled, or the CD changer is not compatable with some head units.
I hope this helps.

Can you tell me how much the long brackets are? Do they sell 1 or in pairs? Any part#? Thanks in advance.

They sell in singles, and they weren't very much... maybe $3 each? A can of spray paint almost cost more.
