Default After installing a new top switch....

all i have to do is turn the little valve back on??? i dont want to break anything. i never really seen the pump in my car, the guys at the body shop told me they moved some valve on the pump so they could put it down manually.

Yep, if the pump is now working in both directions, just close the valve by turning clockwise (I think it's a ball valve, so only a 90-deg turn is required). It's under the little carpet flap on the driver's side rear fender well. If there is a chance air got into the system (pretty likely IMO), you might need to cycle it up/down a few times then re-check the fluid level and fill up to the marks on the resevoir (GM now recommends mineral oil, or so it's said..... I'd still like to see that in writing ).

Actually, this is the latest bulletin for the top fluid I could find.

Subject: Service VME - Convertible Top Hydraulic Fluid #PI00386 - (08/14/2002)

Models: .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

SERVICE VME
This is a service VME to all Chevrolet and Pontiac dealerships regarding 1994 through 2002 Camaro and Firebird convertible top hydraulic fluid. This is Art Spong, Brand Quality Manager for the F-cars. The service manual and ESI incorrectly advise to use DEXRONŽ III automatic transmission fluid for the hydraulic fluid in the convertible top system. The proper fluid is a ten-weight SAE oil. A bulletin will be issued and ESI will also be corrected. Thanks
