Need some coaching for first runs at the track
Next Friday 1/16/09 I am taking my bone stock Vette (LS3 A6 2.73 gears bone stock) to the track for the first time. Here is what I am thinking.
Lowering the tire pressure on the run flats, however what is suggested? The track is Houston Raceway Park with an altitude of about 35 feet. If I lower the pressure, is there something I need to do to the computer or anything else?
Is there a fuse to reset the 'memory'?
Go around the water and just get enough smoke to clean off the tires. Put the car in 'S', and just haul azz on the last yellow, paddle shifting at 6000-6500 rpm. I guess I am going to look at 1000 rpm to stall the car to before releasing the brake. Traction control off.
I was under the assumption that when I am in S mode the car automatically shifts at the proper time, however I have tried this out and it is not the case. The car just starves from lack of fuel (?) instead of automatically shifting, and this is verified in the owners manual page 2-29 "If up shifting does not occur when needed, vehicle speed will be limited to protect the engine" . Maybe there is something I am overlooking or doing wrong.
In a couple of months I will have some Mickey Thompsons and most likely a tune to do away with torque management, but for right now, I would appreciate any coaching I could get for my bone stock A6.
I am familiar with things like not hot lapping, letting the car cool down, etc. What I need is A6 Vette specific.
A big thank you in advance.

The A6's I drove (2007s and 2008s) did not respond quick enough to paddle shifts to use them for drag racing. You bought an automatic, let it do its thing. I've also seen others post that the A6 will some times run worse in S than D. Watch your tach no matter what and make sure it is shifting high enough.
