C5 and f-body use same ring&pinion?

Default C5 and f-body use same ring&pinion?

Does anyone know if the C5 has the same part # ring and pinion gears as the f- cars?? I know the 'Vette's have had an independent rear end for 40 years or so, and the f-body has always had a solid axle, but maybe the "guts" are the same. I know many people have critisized the small diameter of the ring gears on f cars, but I have never had a problem with this. And I recently saw a fellow LS1 Tech guy who had over 100 runs at the track with his stock rear end. I had a "383" stroker in an '85 IROC and it had 2.02 heads with the LPE "box" intake complete w/ a 1000 CFM throttle body. What I am saying is it wasn't short on power and my rear end was stock also, and had no problems. I believe that the stock rear ends are much stronger than they get credit for. Sure, run nitrous through the motor and it makes over 400 RWHP before the squeeze, add some slicks, and dump the clutch at 5000 or so, and you may find out the hard way I am full of I am just curious as I am currently running only a G92 axle ratio, and have been told by the local Chevy dealer that this is a 3.15 gear. I would like to change to a 3.42 or 3.73 and because there are a lot of f-bodies out there, the price would be more reasonable due to the sheer numbers out there. Does anyone have this info. Thanks mucho. My car is a stock motor w/ a few bolt ons w/ an A4. Heading to Ubly, Mi. today to try for the $$$$$ and fun w/ my 8 year old boy, who is addicted to the speed channel, and he's got me watchin' it more an' more, too!

BEING THAT THE REAR DIFFS ARE WAY DIFFERENT SINCE NEW VETTS HAVE IRS I WOULD SIROUSLY DOUBT IT...

The Corvette IRS is a Dana Super 44, the same as a Viper. The Caamro/Firebird is different.

C4's used a Dana 44. C5's use a rear end made by Getrag (makes Porsche transmissions).

Unlike just about every other rear end made, the pinion has a hole in it for the transmission output shaft to fit into. The differential is also on the outboard side of the ring.

look here to verify your C5 rear axle ratio:

The C5 rear differential (called the carrier) is unique to the C5 and I've heard the internals are unique also. You can purchase a brand new 3.42 Getrag complete carrier for $1000 and probably sell your 3.15 carrier for $400.

I agree with Mike I bought a used gear out of a 6 speed with the same miles as my 315 and the difference was 200.00
call Rodney (crashed 94) on the corvette forum
2000 c5 342 sy3500 and Trans-Go stainless works LT'S
BEST with run flats 12.89 1.9 60 at 108 mph.at Milan.
