98 Vette ??'s
I posted a week or so ago about an 01 Z06. I'm kinda thinking I'd like to go with a C6 in a year or two. But then I found this:
--->Bone Stock (?) 98 Vette, 74k miles, M6. $12,995. link here
My goal, ultimately, is a Corvette, with 450-500rwhp. Weekend/nice weather driver. For the price above, it seems more economically viable to pick up a cheap C5 like this and reach that goal slowly, for less than the cost of an LS2 C6.
I'm still just pondering it, and I really have no preference for C5 or C6, they're both corvettes, and anything is better than my 95 Saturn SL2. I'm going to check out the car, take it for a test run today if weather permits. I read the Corvette FAQ sticky, but are there any 98-specific issues I should look for that will hinder my mod-ambitions?
-Thanks
Charlie
I would look for leaks around the oil pan and rear differential.
a good head & cam package should put you around 440rwhp.
I'm a detailer, so mine is immaculate! You'll probably be replacing the clutch in the near future, but that depends on how it's been driven. My pals with 6spds drive the hell out of them. My 4spd A4 auto runs like hell too, but I don't beat it to hell, if you know what I mean. Do as many google searches for C5 info. as you can to teach yourself about the car. To me, it still comes down to condition, condition, condition!!! There are lemons out there for every make and model of car in the world, but the modern C5's & C6's are well made for reliability, yet with lots of performance. Do you're homework first. Good luck!
