Default engine swap opinion needed

I have a 99 c5 and I want to get a bigger engine and I want to put forced induction on it. I want to make as much power as I can as long as it stays a daily driver. I'm not rich so funds will have a role in the swap.

As far as the engine goes which one should I go with. I thought about getting the lsx and adding FI, that would get expensive

should I get a crate motor or have one built?

If you are on a budget I would contact one of the vendors on this site. They usually have some budget short blocks that will fit in your price range most of them with quality parts. If you go with building a LSX block you are going to shell out some cash.

For a DD 500ish rwhp is more than enough. Once you start to make over 500 rwhp, traction starts to become a big issue and that is not good for a daily driver. For 500 rwhp, your current stock motor can certainly handle it with a few upgrades; ARP rod bolts, valve springs, push rods, bigger injectors and fuel pump. A procharger D1SC, a Vortech SC, or some of the turbo setups can easily hit the 500ish rwhp range on a stock motor.

If your planning on going FI, then just used the motor you have for now, it could last you years, why replace a good motor before its time? I've got a stock motor that has been running 9's for 2 years now.

Even if you keep your stock motor as a starting point..... "forced induction" and "budget" don't go together.

You can find used 'blower kit's for about 3+ grand... but figure on a new clutch, misc blower install items, tune, blah, blah, blah.

Why not find a deal on some used CNC'd heads? Add a nice (used)cam, pulley, tune, that would be a good budget build.
