Default c5 Z06 Wheel Question

Ok.. I'm confused... I just bought my 03 z06.. it has the gray stock wheels and I want the same wheels except in chrome.. I was planning to order some aftermarket chrome ones but I've had several people tell me not to go with the aftermarket ones because they're much heavier.

The material for the aftermarket ones says alloy aluminum... unless the aftermarket wheels are steel (which they're not), why would they be any heavier than the stock ones ?? the stock ones are aluminum are they not ? I can do the GM chrome wheel exchange through west coast corvettes but I'd have to give them my stock wheels plus about $600 for the exchange... granted they are official GM wheels but I could probably sell my stock ones and get about that much $ and then buy the aftermarket ones and not be out any $... I'm new to the vettes guys so what am I missing here ??

Thanks

Yeah, the after market chrome ones probably look decent but are heavy. How much heavier? I am not for sure but at least a couple of pounds or more. That means a lot if you are considering unsprung weight and rotating mass. I had after market chrome repro's on mine when I bought it and the first thing I did was sell them and buy the Alcoa factory wheels and have them powder coated. I don't like chrome and wanted light wheels. If I were you and insisted on chrome, I would buy some nice after market wheels like CCW that are fairly light and sell your stockers.

Here's the stock '02 Z06 weights:
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 02 Cast/Spun 17x9.5 19.2
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 02 Cast/Spun 18x10.5 21.0

And a front repro:
OE Concepts Chrome Z06 Wheels 17 x 9.5 = 25.4 lbs

These were found here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/wheels-ti...weights-3.html

Based on the 6.2 lbs difference in the front and taking a conservative estimate that the rears are at least 6.5 lbs heavier then you're looking at an extra 25.4 lbs of rotational mass.
