Getting into a c6 couple questions.
Well I sold my procharged z28 and i'm trying to wait awhile to get a c6 but i'm torn between the a6 & m6. The car will be for *street* use but i'll take it to the track a few times a year. I'm leaning towards the a6 and stalling it because it'll be easier on the drivetrain. But I drove an m6 thinking it would steer me to the a6 since I hadn't driven a manual sports car before, yet I had a blast and felt as I couldn't miss a gear so...
What kind of power is the stock clutch is good for?
What do you all think about putting an sts kit on it? I haven't found many REAL pro's/con's just speculation.
If I don't go with the sts i've seen a few c6's on here with dr's, full exhaust, cai, stall, and tune running mid-low 11's is this the norm or just freak cars?
Thanks for any help,
Devon

I can give you a perfect comparo since I just sold my 2006 H/C/FAST/A6 and bought a 2008 I/C/E M6.
The A6 is amazing if you don't want to shift anymore. It is going to be about 100+ lbs heavier so if you're weight concious it will always be a little heavier than an M6. I'm crazy but that bothered me mentally.
The A6 is usually good for 450-500rwhp before it needs building and as far as I know, RPM is the only place that has even attempted an A6 upgrade and as of right now it's not finished. This was my worry, they are not cheap and if you blow it, all you have available is a stock replacement.
From a roll, it does take a second to fully downshift and a trans tune is a MUST. The paddles are useless even with the trans tune, the lag is way too long. Leave it in Sport mode and let it shift itself.
As a DD and a performance car the A6 is amazing though, just realize if it blows up, you can only swap out a stocker for now so if you have plans for more than 500rwhp you're on barrowed time.
The M6 feels totally different, he car feels like it's attached to my foot, very much responsive. It does have a bit more slack in the drivetrain so it does not feel as smooth while driving but I've learned you can't have it both ways.
For me, a clutch replacement was far cheaper than another A6 trans. My A6 was also a 3LT (heaviest model) so I decided I wanted a 1LT (lightest model) with the M6 and the LS3.
Now I will say hold out for an 08 mainly because the 2008 steering rack is 200% better (IMHO back to back) than the 2005-2007 steering rack. It was very heavy when turning but the 08 is butter 100%.
The LS2/LS3/LS7 clutch is usualy good for 500-600rwhp but that's going to depend on your abuse. I will stick to the stock clutch.
If you get the Z51 A6 it does not affect your gear ratios. If you get a Z51 M6 you get shorter ratios for 1-3 and for me I wanted the base with the longer legs. The base has the same ratios as the C6Z not to mention the 6060 trans came out in 2008. But realize the Z51 is heavier than the base (cross drilled rotors and larger sway bars). It will be very difficult to get an A6 to run with an M6 from a roll but from a dig, the A6 is an animal if you have a tire, even with the stock converter.
My 3LT, A6 Z51 was the heaviest option so I wanted to get back to a bear bones 1LT M6 base.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that there wasn't anyone really building the a6 yet so that's good to know. I guess thats another point for the m6 thus far. As far as the 06-08 I figured I'd get an 06-07 because I've read the 05's have a weaker diff. But I hadn't heard about the steering difference between the 05-07 to the 08's+ is it really that big of a diff? I have only test driven two '06 c6's so far one a6 the other m6 each z51's and loved them both!

I have some seat time with the M6 and A6. Trying to make nice smooth acceleration from zero is a challenge with the manual. The clutch on the vette is awfully touchy. It takes quite a lot of rpm, precise clutch engagement and practice to get smooth engagement. Not so with the automatic. And keeping the clutch fluid clean is almost a weekly task. You say your car will be for street and only occasional track. That tells me you will never see above 500 hp. Quite a few cammed LS3s are making right at 500 hp without a problem with the A6. M6 is more fun on the highway especially, around town not so fun. If you get a manual be sure to get the Z-51 with the lower 6th gear or 6th will be awfully lazy with the non-Z51. Same with the A6, get the 2.73 so 6th won't be so lazy. If you plan to et race on those occasional track outings you mention then it's a no-brainer, A6.

So im driving a m6 tonight and when I launch one time it works fine and the next its like it starts to engage then the clutch pedel doesn't fully release and slips then next time its back to normal again, I checked the fluid and it looks pretty dirty. It seems to do the slipping more when trying to leave around 3k+ rpms Is the problem likely the fluid or somthing else?
