What are your goals?...Is it your DD?...You track the car often?..Show car? Etc...These are the questions you should ask yourself first before asking one of us on what we think what YOU want.....im not tryin to come off as a dick. I just need more info and variables

Its my daily driver that gets tracked occasionally but I beat on it like crazy while driving normally. I had nothing done to it besides the basic bolt on's. Intake/exhaust.

So it probably blew from old age. 2001 ~73,000 miles. I had nothing crazy like FI.

Right now i got engine knock which probably came from the crappy gm lifters messing up.

One of my rod bearings went out for sure and that probably took the crank with them, and since the valvetrain is also fucked, i might as well junk the whole thing.

But i don't know how bad it is because i didn't drop the oil pan and actually took a look at to what extent it's messed up. So it might be still fixable.

I just want to see what are the options people have taken to transform these fiberglass deathtraps into faster fiberglass deathtraps.

I don't need anything crazy since i was fine with the power i had, but if im changing the thing anyway and if the prices aren't too far apart, I might as well get something faster or with a little more cubic inches.

The failure is probably my fault for not look looking further into the valve ticking and not taking it easy on her.

well you mentioned alot of issues...73K miles on a LSX motor isnt ****....in your case anyways. You say you dont track the car that often. Sounds stupid but did you keep the oil changed in it regularly? Oil pressure issues? Either way if you think you spun a bearing than yea your in for a rebuild or like you want, a bigger motor. Give Teaxsspeed a call. They may have somthing in your price range. What kinda money are you lookin to spend? You also said your valtrain is junk. You better have a look see at the intake to make sure you dont have shrapnel in it. Unless you plan on replacing that too. If you liked the power you had and dont ever care to get much faster than rebuild it. If you wouldnt mind spending a lil extra. Speedinc has a 370ci for a reasonable price. If done right, that motor off boltons alone could get you 410-420rwhp(varied numbers). Throw in a cam and you could be knockin on the door of 500rwhp. Its all in how much your willing to spend.

Yea i changed the oil going by what the computer told me to using the gm4718 or whatever approved oils.

oil pressure right now is lower. It used to stay at 40 and go up when i was on the gas. It would dip under 40after idling for a longer time.

Right now it stays at 30 and their is a time lagg until it goes up after i press the throttle. So the lifters are angry for sure somewhere.

Thanks for your input. I'll check speedinc out.

Would you know that if i put in the 6.0, after a tune, would i get the same mpg as a c6? Or worse?

LS3 w/ LPE sensor adapters. Or get a 6.0+ and L92 heads w/ LS3 intake.

Get on the road to future upgrades and benefit from it now. The L92 heads flow great.

Wheres the best place to buy the motor + all the stuff to make it run sexy?

I couldn't find the motor on speedinc so i have to call them. Any other places where i can compare prices.

What are you opinions on buying them used in fs/wtb. Or do i have a good chance of getting a used and abused motor.

If your not on a budget id go with with either a LS7 (427) or a stoker LS3 (418).

Depends on where you live. Here in Los Angeles, the sexiest motors come from NRE. Daily driver 2000HP cars.

I would go nothing less than a forged 408 iron stroker if on a budget. With some loose dough, 418/427 alum based stroker, L92/LS7 and L76/LS3/LS7 intake...

Rebuild your LS6 with forged pistons/rods and add ported heads.

It will run sexy enough... 8/10

if you tracked it on mobil 10/30 and got the engine nice and hot. you prob melted your bearings

personally i would by an LS6 crate motor from GM and put a 224/570 114 cam in it. it will be have close to 400 hp to the wheels. be dependable and last a long time. and run 15/50 mobil or amsoil or redline on the track. new oil before every track session

depending on how much money you want to spend.

Tho I will agree with JOSHUA. Then you can do whatever you want to the motor. A crapload of spray or boost it.

Price is a big factor. If I toasted an engine now and had to stay N/A, I'd save my pennies until I could afford to drop a 427 in, but that's just me. With the amount of work involved, you should end up with what you'd ultimately be happy with. If you can't afford right now what you really want, toss a cover on the vette for the winter and save your duckets Keep us posted on what you choose!

One Cheap way to go:
I bought a 402 short block and a pair of good heads. Bolted together in my garage, dropped in my Silverado and ran 11.49 on the very first pass without a tuned tranny. Reset shift points and am now at 11.17 @ 119mph. Hoping to scratch out a 10 sec run with my new Hoosiers.
