Help with Rims

What is the minimum width tire that will work with a 18 x 10.5 in rim. I currently have 275s on the rear, will these be wide enough.

I am pretty sure 285's is the smallest you can go but I would get at least 295's as anything smaller will look retarded and you will have a lot of traction issue as if they are not bad enough in our cars.
