Default C6 Vette differences?

So im thinking about maybe getting a C6 Vette as my next car. I know that 05-07's had the Ls2 and the 08's up have the Ls3. Correct me if im wrong.

Are there any differences other then the engines?
Whats the performance differences?
Problems with any models?

Don't buy a 05. Weak rear end, Shift to Reverse when turning off and some other little things like that.

Yeah 05's have a few kinky things nothing of course that cannot be sorted. the one that really bugs me is the steering wheel.

06's have most of the issue's sorted.

I think it is 07 were steering changes were made for improved improved feedback, bitching from C&D probably led to that.

I'm not familiar with years & changes to the auto's ......thats is important to know if you are considering one.

Then the always entertaining debate of Z51 vs F55!

My suggestion is head over to CF & your Brain will explode with debates & info regarding the C6's. As always when you sort thru the Internet fluff lots of good information.

Wheels changed too I think when they brought in the LS3. Not 100 percent sure though on that one. Not that wheels can be changed out anyway. Was it just the early z06 that had the roof problem recall? Or something to that nature?

What type of information are you looking for? Are you planning on racing the car or are you looking to just have a C6 driver?

The biggest thing that is a buster is that on the removable roof coupes, you get an almost constant creaking or popping noise. It looks like the latest and greatest roof latchs will correct the problem (but for how long is anybody's guess) but if the car is out of warranty it would cost you a few hundred to buy the latches. There also was a delamination issue with the painted roof panels of 05 - 07 (I don't think other years have it) and in the extreme case the outer roof panel would seperate and blow off the car at certain speeds, usually over 70 mph. All this can be checked on the Corvette Forum C6 section under a sticky about the roof panel noise (the seperation is talked about on pg 17 I think). The early C6's also had a rear clunking and chatter noise which in most cases was corrected with fluid and additive change.

i got bought a 05 last year. you get use to shifting to reverse so that was not a big deal to me. the steering wheel seems fine with me. the popping noise from the roof can be fixed with e clips from home depot.

what i regret is the weak rear end and the xm radio thing on the roof.

when i was looking my budget was 30k. i could find newer ls2 and a few ls3's but they had higher milage and not fully loaded. not taken very good care of.

i got a 05 z51 with nav and everything plus 2 roofs for 28k with 30k miles. I'm sure there are better deals but i wanted black/black 6spd.

Thanks for the info guys, really just wanted to know what model yrs had issues with them. I know when new body styles or models come out, there tends to be some issues in the 1st year.

The car would be nothing more then a daily/weekend car with some racing from time to time. Im not a big racer as in going out and looking for races every weekend or taking it to the track. I will run it though, and do some mods but not much.

Still up in the air, whether i want a C6 Vette or just getting a 5th Gen Camaro, 5.0 or GT500 Mustang. Part of me says, screw it and just get a Vette lol So we'll see but for now, im looking at all options and trying to learn what issues/problems they may have.

'08 got the T6060 (stronger trans) also.

The only reason I'd go with a 05-07 is if you wanted to run a built A4. I don't think they can build up the A6 yet as well as the old A4.

Go with 2006 and up. The 2005's were the left overs of the C5's.

Better wiring, drivetrain, PCM, etc...

I think the 08s+ use the z06 fuel pump also (flows more). That could only be the more recent ones though.
