Default C5 Automatics for drag/street.

OK, I am planning on getting my 1st Corvette around June when I go on vacation. I plan on going with an A&A kit, on a stock motor, gears, full exhaust, and a stall.(what speed stall?) The reason I want an automatic is simple. The drag strip. What other modifications should I consider? I also want to still be able to drive it on the street. How well do the rearends hold up? Bench racing says that puts it at about 475 HP to the wheels. Another what time time should it run question. I'm not new to LS-1 just Corvettes. Any help would be nice thanks in advance.

Get a trans brace. Upgrade the axle shafts. The rear end should hold up fine as long as you don't keep your foot in it during wheel hop. That's what destroys the rear ends. But 475RW is well within the diff's capabilities if you're not hopping.

I can't tell you what stall you'd want for forced induction.

The weak link in your potential combination will be the drivetrain. My suggestion is to call RPM transmissions (1-800-406-1109) and talk about upgrading your 4L60 transmission and differential. RPM can also help you choose the proper stall speed for your torque converter. If you put sticky tires on the car and launch it at the drag strip, these factory drivetrain parts will fade/break even quicker. Good luck.

I agree. I think that 4L60 needs to be built or it won't last long. I'm running one in my Silverado (almost a ten second truck) and it is on year 2 with many runs on it. I hope that didn't just jinx me
