Default headlights are grinding.. how can I fix this? please help

the pop up lights in my c5 go up and go down fast and smoothly.. except when I turn the headlights off and the lights go down, I continue to hear a loud grinding noise for around4-5 seconds.

do I need to replace the gears? or what can I do to make it stop?

Yeah, just did mine. Had the same issue as you. I upgraded to the brass gears.

But the gears are obviously turning and working fine because the headlights still go up and down. Could it be something else?

There stripping when there making that noise, won't be long before they won't open or close. Your at the " your being warned" phase.

Gears are stripped, you can replace with brass gear and never have a problem. I went with the free route and spun the gear to an unused portion and never had any problems for years. I can't find the link for the how to, but you might want to check the corvette forum, this site is pretty lite on vette specific stuff.

He is correct, just do a search on the corvette forum. You can buy a plastic gear and fix it on your own for less than $15 Bucks.....
