I have seen many z28s at the track with aftermarket rear, clutch, slicks and skinnys pulling 12.50s with a lid and cat back. Now to upgrade the rear its gets pretty pricey but its a very smart move if you want the to show what the car can really do with the M6. Now I personally own a c5 99. I have added some things shown in my sig to run 12.40s consistant now, but then you can turn around and hit the autoX track or the local twistie street and the car is perfect there all on stock suspension. Its amazing what this car does day after day.
