Corvette pricing?
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but.......I'm in the hunt for a Vette and it seems that everywhere I look the prices of like an 06 vette are $5,000 over the kelly BB value Is this normal? Or is this the price they start with and they will bargain down? I have never owned a vette before and am not familiar with the buying game on them.

Yes most corvettes for sale are ridiculously over priced I talking about a 00-04 vette with 100k+ miles or close for over 20K, I dont know if they think they car is gold or what but if you search around and be patient you will find one priced right...

Sold my near perfect bolt-on 03 z06 with 27k miles for 24.5 grand fyi. It also had Fikse FM10's and allmost new Michelin Super Sports. I could of held out for 26K the car was that nice. You can find deals out there for low mile cars, keep looking.

As mentioned, KBB is garbage. You can deduce your own numbers by averaging out what you see for sale, but you have to take into consideration mods, mileage, condition, and more desirable options. Just keep looking. I looked for my Z28 for 6 months before I found one I liked that was reasonable $.

The Corvette market is a strange one to say the least. In the 2.5 years and almost 20k miles I've owned my 07Z for it's lost maybe 5k? I bought it for 47k and it's still just as clean as the day I bought it. During the winter months in most states the prices typically decline though. Here in AZ they are slightly more stable and there are always a good number of them for sale here, many with more "average" miles because they can be daily driven.

The deals are there. As stated before KBB is garbage. The banks and Credit Unions use the NADA book to determine value for loans if you want to use something for a guideline. Most people think these cars are worth alot but they depreciate just a fast as any other car, sometimes faster. Most all drop fairly the same percentage wise but obviously the more expensive cars have the biggest money drops. I've seen ZR1's in the high 70's and they cost over 110k new. Les Stanford Chevy ran a deal last week for brand new 2012's for 35k (some discounts were for current vette owners) but you get the point.
Sat I bought my 2006 coupe with 42k miles for 22k. It's not only in amazing condition but the previous owner had just installed a Vortech V3 supercharger, Kooks Longtubes with full exhaust and new runflats. Over 9k in mods. Flew to NJ and drove it home.
Keep looking and you'll find your vette.

Hey,
To keep the price reasonable, C5 is your best bet. And forget the Z06, they command a premium. If you are stuck on the Z06 look, shop for a 99 or 00 FRC. Same car, less engine basically.
Coupes make great cars and can be updated to near Z06 performance, they are just a little heavier.
Used parts are plentiful, shop the corvette forum.
I found my 00 coupe with 78K miles locally for $10k. Everything worked. It needed some TLC, but that was perfect for me as I wanted a project so I could build it my way. I also wanted the A4 because my goal was to drag race and daily drive it.
I bought nearly everything used except for the cam, lifters, timing chain and the auto trans. I'm in it $16k, it runs bottom 11's, and it was my daily driver every day this summer.
Admittedly, I scored a good deal, but it can be done. BTW....I also upgraded the suspension to Z06 specs as well.
