Speedo accuracy?
I had some problems with my computer tune since putting the headers on, it kept tripping the check engine light once I got it up to 160mph. Well, I had it reprogrammed and decided to do a high speed run to make sure there are no issues. I got on 15N going up to Mesquite, and once I found a long straight away with no cars, I nailed it and took it up to 180 with no error cods. Since I was going so fast and had no traffic ahead, I kept it planted to see what top end it had.
I don't mean to sound like the hooligan on this forum, and will probably never run it this fast again, but it went to 195 going down the hill of the long valley I was in at 5400rpms in 4th. I then turned around on the other side of the road(seperated highway), waited for about 10 minutes for traffic to dissappear, and ran it again going up the hill, and it got to 185 at almost the same rpms, and wouldn't go any faster. I had plenty of open highway to run it for a while floored, in both directions, and it would not go faster when floored for about 30 seconds after reaching those speeds. This two way run makes me think 190mph average. Oh yeah, it was 78degrees outside.
Now I am not that smart(of course not, driving that fast!) but these speeds seem to be a little too high to me? I don't think I have enough power to run that fast with just my bolt on mods. So out of curiousity I was wondering how fast this car is capable of just for stupid bragging rights, and wondered if anyone knew how accurate the speedo is. My tires and rims are stock! Is it possible that our cars are that fast with some minor modifications? Or am I having a pipe dream and the speedo is like 10% off? The guys at the performance shop said they are accurate to 1mph, but that just seems off, that would make a stock Z06 capable of about 200mph then with the 6 speed wouldn't it?
