Default Instrument Panel Lights

I have asked about this problem on other forums and at the Dealership near me. No one has a reasonable answer to help. Here it is:On my 1997 Vette when I open the driver door all the interior lights illuminate EXCEPT the Instrument Panel Compartment. (the speedometer, tach guages, etc) They do light up with the light switch. All other functions on this car work as advertised. I am wondering if there is a series of buttons to push on the DIC that will change this. Somewhere along the way I heard about a "Demo Mode" that would allow this. I am thinking...not the answer. All my friends with C5s showed me that their IPC comes on with the door open. Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

-body control module.

In my opinion. That, or a failing cluster but,...I think it's a bcm(body control module). I don't think it's a cluster unless they're where secondary lights that worked for requested illumination, vs opening a door, and having auto illumination.

The BCM and the programming inside of it, is what tells your lights to work or not...try bcm reprogram first,... if not,..got a buddy with a C5? Swap clusters ,...see if it works in your car...etc.

UNLESS....maybe, somehow, the door lock actuator has an issue,..and doesn't know that the door is open but, that wouldn';t make sense because the interior lights come on, just not the cluster.

So,..again,..my opinion, BCM or programing related to that module.

BCM was my thought also. The problem occurs with both doors, so that eliminates the door modules. They both go thru the BCM. I am still holding out for a quick fix by programming thru the DIC.
thanks for the reply.
