Default Picked on by cops.

How many times have you been doing 80mph, along with everyone else on the freeway, but for some reason the cops come up on you and pull you over? I was doing 80 tonight, about the pace of the rest of traffic. All of a sudden a guy makes a left turn signal and swerves hard into my lane from in front of me while hitting his brakes. I hit the brakes and swerve hard right to avoid smashing his bumper. A car behind me has to hit the brakes to keep from hitting me, and then the guy behind me honks his horn long and hard, and gives me the finger. I say screw it, push it to 90 to get out of the pack, and then return to my 80mph pace along with everyone else. About a second later Highway patrol pulls me over and says, "You were doing 88mph when you made that crazy lane change in front of that guy, making him have to slam on the brakes to keep from hitting you, then you got it up to 90 again to pass everyone! How would you like to go to jail for reckless driving?" I try to tell him what happened, then he just tells me to shut up! Finally he lets me go with a warning, probably cause I'm a peace officer also. But in two months I have been pulled over 3 times, and I have not changed my driving style at all. Usually going with the rest of traffics pace, but I keep getting pulled over. Is it cause it's a Vette? Do they just radar on to Vettes and can't wait to give you a ticket. I understand If I am driving stupid, or everyone is doing the speed limit and I am speeding, but when I am at the same pace as everyone else on the road, and surrounded by cars? What the hell is the deal with this!?

Let me know of your pull overs that you think were unfair.

p.s. I know I was speeding but COME ON!!!!! So was everyone else.

Never been pulled, but i have been given the thumbs up from a few law enforcement officials tho.

The only time ive been scared that i was going to be pulled, I was heading down I-40S to Wilmington to visit some friends. Goin in the fast lane right behind an NC-SHP trooper, and we're cruzing along at about 85-90 or so. All of a sudden, i look in my rearview mirror and see 2 more SHP cars comming up on my ***. I start thinkin "what the hell! Its not like im really tailgating, its not like im driving reckless or tryin to be stupid, wtf are they goin to pull me for?!" Then all three cars turn on their blue's, and are basically boxing me in. Im not really freakin, just thinkin "Wtf?!!!!!!" Thank God, the trooper to the right hit the gas, while the car behind me tucked in behind him, and the car in front did the same. Later saw 5 cars pulled over, by 3 NC-SHP cars, so im assuming it was those troopers.

Thats about the only scare ive had in the vette. Been pulled twice with my truck, but given warnings both times. Dont really get targeted all that much, maybe its cause its not red? Lol.

Similar experiences here. I usually have to go slower to not get harassed. They'll let these brain dead idiots in SUV's that handle and stop like an oil tanker do 90 all day long, but a sports car doing 10 over is a menace to all on the road. My father is a retired police chief, my uncle a retired deputy, and I have 2 first cousins who are officers, so I'm not anti-law enforcement. From owning my Vette and WS6 I have lost all respect for the State Troopers in IA. I used to give to their donations and what not. Not anymore. My favorite was the incident where I passed a Trooper (at 5 over the limit mind you) in my Firebird who had someone stopped. He chased me down for what had to have been miles to pull me over for no front plate. I pointed out to him that he drove at dangerously high speeds through traffic to give me a non-moving violation ticket. That didn't make him happy. This same dickwad pulled me over a year later for speeding (59 in a 55) but "let me go" with another front plate violation. They tout that the 65/55 speed limit saves lives here in IA when the statistics clearly show that over 90% of the traffic is going at least 10 miles an hour faster. They are enforcing a speed tax and I would have more respect for them if they'd just call it that and get it over with. That and start ticketing these damn land yacht drivers that think they're in a sports car and weave all over while on their cell phone. Anyone who says that the cops aren't gunning for our cars hasn't owned one.

I have had the same experience in my WS6. I have found the only way I can drive down the freeway is to go a little slower then cars in fast lane. If I match their speed or 5mph faster I get a ticket. Ling_650vette, I know that area. I work at Alameda and 405, Union Pacific Railroad. I get there going down the 7. I have two speeding tickets on the 7 between the 91 and the 405. Doing about 80, other cars doing 80+. But I have the Trans Am so I get the ticket.

While I don't have a vette,I get the same treatment in the ss,in the lovely state of va. In the flow of traffic as it is termed, I am the one that gets pulled each and every time, not for speeding, but not for having front tag and or the tint, wth? Hmmmmm... let's see it is "ok" to speed in groups of SUV's,kids screaming, mom and pops yelling at the screaming kids, who are thus the ones weaving and bobbing and talking on the phone, etc. in a concentrated group, but yet WE are the ones that get pulled out of the group for a freakin tag, tint or the exhaust?Just think after 7 tickets for tint and 4 for not having front tag,I would have learned to keep my truck instead of getting the ss(since they never did stop me for tint or tag on that), funny how that works huh?

I used to have a white grand am gt i got pulled over for speeding (i was) i was slightly
faster than traffic, never in the fast lane. now, i don't mind that i got popped.
what bothers me was the jimmy that pasted me going 8-10 faster than me in the
fast lane in front of the cop! of course, the cop said "i did'nt see a jimmy speeding"

I have found that typically when their radar gun goes off, they look at the traffic and have to guess who the reading was from and guess who they think is guilty?
Funny thing is that I always got pulled over in my 99 SS and although I always ask for a warning, I never got one. Then when I bought my 03 Corvette, I got pulled over and the officer asked me why I was speeding and I said, " I wasn't going any faster than anyone else, why did you single me out?". And he replied, " My radar gun went off and when I pulled onto the road you were out in front of everyone else". And I said, " That's because everyone braked harder than I did." So he asked for my license and insurance. So I figured it was going to be buisness as usual and I said, "you just pulled me over because I'm driving a Corvette". Then he went to his car and ran my info and came back and to my surprise said," I didn't pull you over because you were driving a Corvette, I like them. I didn't pull you over because you were driving a red car either, so don't assume I am stereotyping. Now slow it down."
I was shocked and thanked him for the warning.

I think thats admissible in court tho as to the "I judged your speed to be X-X mph". I think its hard to judge as to whether you're going 70 in a 65 if all the other traffic is going 67. In NC I believe thats how it works. Also, if you're in the car, ask to see the radar gun. Ive had a few friends get off b/c the trooper/officer didnt lock the speed when he was tagged. Kinda hard for him to just say "you were going 70 in a 55" and not really have anything to prove it outside of his word. (and yes, i do know most officers/troopers/deputys word in court is pretty much stone, but having a little bit of knowledge may make the difference in a ticket or a waiver)

Yes, this is what I am talking about. I see SUV's and all kinds of trucks and cars passing this state trooper on the highway, they are all doing 75, and the speedlimit is 65, I then pass the guy since everyone else did, doing 70, and whamo. "What the hell do you think your doing budy?" That is what was said to me. I got so mad, I said, "Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, it's ok to pass you in a work truck, or a minivan with kids, but do it in a Vette, that is the only vehicle that can out turn, handle and out stop every other vehicle on this freeway, and I gotta deal with this. Just give me my ticket, and,,,,,,,,,,I know, slow it down!" So I figure OK, here is where I go to jail, but the guy then says, take it easy, I'm just giving you a warning. Almost pooped myself. I didn't even have to badge him. This was only the second time I have ever talked back to a cop, besides, no sir, yes sir, in my life. It's like cops hate guys with nice fast cars, and especially sportbike riders.

I don't care if anyone wants to drive like an idiot, or as fast as they want, but there are limits, that some people don't realize that screws things up for the rest of us. Just don't drive like a maniac to get one car length ahead during rush hour traffic, cutting off people, or doing like a 100mph when everyone else is doing 35 cause traffic is coming to a halt. Or these crazy idiots on the bikes who like to turn off their headlamps and do 100mph between cars on a residential neighborhood. It comes down to, do whatever you want as long as it does not effect or harm others around you. General rule that everyone should be able to handle you would think.

What kills me the most is now I find myself driving more carefully, and more responsible than ever before, and it seems most Vette owners are very carefull drivers when around everyone else. And don't deserve the consensus. The mustang crowd is usually the worst, cause it is affordable to the average idiot on the road, not labeling all mustang owners, but there are a lot more idiots that can afford a mustang.

I got pulled over doing 47 in a 35, yes i was speeding I admit it, but there was an Audi thingy infront of me that was pulling away from me. But who would you pull over if you were a cop? An Audi (which in my area there are ALOT of) or a blue corvette convertable with some punko kiddo wearing sunglasses? Ya didn't get out of that one . My first and only infraction, hell no i wasn't gettin a warning. But I got what I deserved. I don't speed all that much anymore, I actually speed more in my Honda beater than I do in the Vette or the SS.

I was coming back from T-Bell in the SS and going 45 in a 35 (the road turns to 40 like a block further up) and got nailed. The bitch was tailgateing me pacing me, and I was gonna break check the ****** (didn't know it was a cop at the time). I guess I subconsciously speed up, I don't like it when people are close to my car. He pulls me over, I talked my way out of it because the cop was a shmoe. "What speed was I going, sir?" "About 50-55." "What? Sir my radar detector didn't go off, so what speed was I going? I know I wasn't going 55, I'd say more like 40-45." "I didn't say 55 blah blah! etc..." You know how it ends.

Has anyone who went from an fbody to a vette noticed better treatment by cops when you have the vette?

Not really. My Vette is Pewter (which is not very flashy) and I have resigned myself to the fact that I can't drive as fast as the flow of traffic, so those 2 things have kept me lower profile. My '96 WS6 was white and being an **** bastard it was usually spotless. So the blinding white with Borla just attracted more attention is my guess.
