Default 01 Z06 things to look for

I may be picking up a 2001 Z06 with about 90k on it. I know the 2001s had an oil consumption issue, but I know little else about other potential issues. Can anyone give me some signs of trouble to look for on these? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It really depends, what you want to get yourself into. Visually inspect undercarage, transmission and motor for leaks. Look at the wiring at the starter for burned or corroted cables. etc etc.

Run the codes in the DIC. There are sticky threads on Corvette Forum that will tell you what the codes are.

One thing I would check into is see if it has had the factory recall done for the service column lock issue. Or, check and see if it has an aftermarket column lock bypass installed. This was a big issue for the c5's and was never totally resolved. Google it and you will find a ton of info. I had it happen to my 03 and thought I had bought a lemon. I install the column lock bypass and got a new battery, haven't had a problem since. You know it's happening when you crank the car and get the message "pull key and wait 10 secs" message. Good luck!
