Default Looking to Buy.

I think it's time to let loose of my 2002 T/A WS6 and move up to the vette I've wanted for years. I have previously owned a '69 L46 cpe and a '70 LT1 convert so it's been a while since I have been a member of the Corvette fraternity.

I have been following forums for a while so I have learned a few things but I'm a long way from knowing enough. I'm aware that the 2005 C6 has reputation for grenading the rear end. Also the 2005 computer is difficult to reprogram for mods.

I would really like a Grand Sport but I don't know when they stopped hand building the engines in the 6-sp models. I don't know how much stiffer the suspension is in the GS. The car will be used for cruising and traveling.

As you may have guessed, I'm pushing 80 (be there in less than 2 years) so I think I still have one more vette left in me. Any and all info, suggestions and advice are appreciated.

C6 or C7? I'm not as familiar with the C7 as the C6 but I believe all C6 GS manual transmission cars had the 'hand built' engines whereas automatics did not. They ride fine but a base C6 would ride the best. Go drive some and grab one while you're still young!

If you are looking to have your cake and eat it too then I would look for a GS with the F55 option, the GS will get you the handling to the GS package and the F55 magnetic ride shocks will get you a better ride quality. I'm sure it's going to be tough to find but if you can find one - even if it's a convertible I would take it for a test drive just to see what it feels like. Then at least you would have something to compare to.
