I think it is a good buy if you have nothing on righ know. If you do have something on there now, it will be hard to justify the additional funds to switch.
I switched from a ProFlow to it and have really not seen any ET gain and only about 1 mph gain.

I got one for my '99 and really like it. also put the Z06 screens on to keep the rocks and larger insects out. I did notice an almost immediate improvement, (after the computer relearn, about 15 minutes of driving), but I had the stock filter on it. almost anything beats that. got mine from exit28motorsports for $315 with free shipping.

Got it installed on my 04 coupe and it's awesome. And don't worry about the hydrolocking thing...everybody gets paranoid with bottom breathers. No problem at all with the VR-1B or VR-2B.
Unless your car becomes a submarine, it's not an issue. If you're car does become a submarine, you've got bigger problems than hydrolock.
You can drill the drain holes larger if you're still worried about it.
