Recalibrate & relocate MAT sensor
Please Help!
I have a 1998 c5 a4 & was wondering about recalibrate & relocate MAT sensor. I have heard that the 97 - 98 models respond better to this as a result for simulating advanced timing but is not recomended on 99 and new models, and I don't want to spend the money on the Hypertech to try to accomplish advanced timing through their so called power tuning which I have still not seen do anything for anyone. Is this mod worth doing for the low cost and do you get anything from it? If so has any one done this and can give me some positive or negitive feed back? I realize this is not a accurate way to advance you cars timing but im really looking at the price and saying to myself for 20 bucks mabey this is worth a try.

I remember the timing tricker from back when I first got my car in 99. Actually, I don't think it really advances your timing. I think it just helps to prevent retarding your timing when the weather gets warmer. Your timing advance is going to be about the same if the weather is 70 degrees or 40 degrees. Don't take my word for it though, but for my own car (a 99), I've noticed that timing is about the same at 45 degrees or 65 degrees. I usually do the autotapping at night. But it may retard when it gets to 90 degrees, so if the PCM only thinks it's 70 degrees, then it is "advancing" your timing relative to what it was supposed to be, but I don't think you'll see a benefit at all temperatures. It's just going to help prevent timing retard from warmer intake air.
