Default First time drag racer...I love it!

I drag raced for the first time in a club challenge competition at my local drag strip. I loved it! I only got one time trial in before the competition started, and I pulled a 14.2 @98 mph with a 0.432 reaction time (13s are a possibility). My next run I spun the tires and ran a 14.6. Anyway, my goal is to break 100 mph without too many serious mods. The next challenge/race is on 5/27/2005 so I'd like to make the changes before then. The first change I'd like to make is the spark plugs and ignition wires. Because I've never done this before, I want some real advice from people with experience on which brand of plugs/wires to use. I looked at the mods list on the Lt1-Lt4 forum, but it seems like those mods are for the Camaro/Firebird LT1. My car is a 1992 coupe with 6-speed manual. When I bought the car I was told an "upgraded" cam was put in. I have no clue what kind is in there and neither do the previous owners. Any help is appreciated.

Wow that sucks you dont know the cam specs, that would be useful to know. You should be able to get that car into the high 13's with a better launch. I am guessing your 60' is slower than 2.0??? Looks like you hit the red light with that reaction time. I think anything under .5 for most tracks is considered too early, but I could be wrong. Some are different.

Get a good intake and exhaust system on there to start with. You could do an intake and headers+nice free flowing muffler. That will defiantely get you safely into the 13's.

The track is Firebird Raceway (www.firebirdonline.com), and a perfect reaction time is considered 0.000. I was told that most tracks consider a 0.5 perfect, so I think this track is different. The only qualms I have about an exhaust is interior noise levels. I don't mind more sound out the back, but I enjoy being able to talk and enjoy music at sensible decibals inside the car. A friend of mine took me for a ride in his 96 Vette and the Flowmasters really drown everything else out. Are Bosch +4s a safe option for a mostly stock LT1? I've also heard NGKs are decent. For now I'd like to just upgrade the plugs and wires.

Go with Taylor wires with their Optispark ends. You also might want to consider the a new cap and rotor from MSD. As for plugs, I'd reccomend the NGK TR55's. If you're having ignition issues, you probably need a new optispark (distributor) as well. It's a VERY common problem the LT1/LT4, and especially the 92-94 cars as they had the unvented unit.
