Default Shift Light...where to mount

Does anyone have a shift light mounted in your C5? If so, where did you mount it. The one I have is an Autometer shift light that I originally had on the T/A. I dont really need it right now, but will after I do the cam and bump up the rev limiter.

Thanks,

I'm trying to find a place right now for my Harlan shiftlight. It *must* be totally invisible when the light is off or its not going in my car.

Some places I'm thinking of are in my hud, or in an A/C vent. The only problem is...the A/C vents dont seem to want to come out. DOH.

I'll look a bit more tomorrow I guess.

I think you have to lift the dash up to put it in the center AC vent. If i do that I'll extend the wires to the LED's so i can reprogram it without removal.

Godspeed knows how to remove the dash, he retrofitted hud on his car.

I just put my Harlan shift light in on saturday. I removed the dashpad and put the LED's and a 1/2" piece of the black tube the harlan light came in. I then extended the led wires down the to access panel by the passenger side footwell and put the electronics in the remaining piece of tube for the light.

The mounting location I used does not obstruct air flow in the center vent, and I can reprogram the light without disassembly. I took a couple pictures while the dash was out, I'll post them when I get home.

How hard was it to lift up the dash? Was the only reason you disassembled it so you can change shiftpoints easily?

You guys have some good ideas. I need to take a look at the autometer. If I can easily take it apart, I may look at buying another plate that covers the cabin temp sensor(to the left of the ignition). I dont have anything in front of me right now(at work) so I'm working from memory. But with taking apart the shift light, I should be able to mount the light by itself in to the center of that cover and run the wiring basically anywhere I want, to be able to access the plug for different pills. You would still be able to see that there is a flat bulb, but its not going to stand out, as it would mounted in a traditional manner.

Opinions?

It was a real pain in the butt, it took about 8 hours start to finish. That wasnt exactly working 100% of the time though. I had to remove the dash pad completely from the car, because the AC duct work is mounted directly to the underside of it.

I modified the harlan light for two reasons. The duct work behind the center vent is not straight, there is no way for the whole light to fit inside. I could have cut a hole the diameter of the tube but instead I mounted it to the far right side of the vent using just the LED part and a short piece of the black tube with a piece of double sided tape. Because of the shape of the duct its the perfect place to mount it. It points right at me. Now I only have a very small hole through the duct that the wires for the LED's run through.

The other reason is that I can change the shift point if needed.

Running a wire to the pcm for the tach was also a lot more trouble than i anticipated.

I'll get those pics posted soon.

Mike: If you can find an excuse to install a dual guage pod in the A-pillar a light would look really good there.

I think a stealth install would be kind of difficult with a big shift light. Harlans is pretty small.
