Default Bad News, Lost 9 rwhp

We had our fourth So. Cali Dyno day at R&D Dyno. After our last dyno, I had the 3.73 gear and the Yank ST-3500 and a LS-6 Intake installed. I am still waiting for Steve Cole to tune my car. After all the dust cleared, I had lost 9 rwhp. I remember Steve Cole telling me 2 years ago, if I go with taller gears, my hp would drop on the dyno. The dyno operator seems to think it is due to the loseness of the converter also, he also said it flashed at 4000 rpms instead of 3500, I said that good, that means I have a ST-4000. But the good news is that I picked up 17 lbs of rear wheel torque. The car has run a best of 12.34 @ 112.22 with the engine detonating three times before the end of the run, which was quicker by .3 after the installation of the mods with 9 rwhp less and tuning still to come.

We all think about hp as or gauge, but I think we should start thinking more about torque (the force that get the car moving).

Numbers in sig, I guess I will have to let the ET's do the talking, not horsepower. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

With a converter change you can expect to lose anywhere from 10-15 rwhp. Nice numbers tho. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Did you lock the converter during the dyno?

If not then there is part of your HP loss. Most people gain 10-15rwhp when they lock the converter up. It is a more accurate portayal of what your true #'s are.

Either do a search in here to learn how to lock it yourself or have the dyno operator use the Tech II to do it. I think around 4500-5000rpm?
