Default Questions about 00' C5.. please help!!

I have a 01' SS that has some work done to it. Now my dad wants to start with his 00' C5. He already has the Corsa Touring exhaust. He wants to do and intake and other bolt ons to prep for a cam and possibly heads.

My question is.. is there any intake that is sort of like an inexpensive swap equivalent to a lid on our cars.

What other bolt-ons should he do? Will all the stuff like throttle bodies, and MAF's fit all LS1's or is there separate ones for F-bods and C5's.

What headers should he get (that are not rediculously priced) and what x-pipe could he get to fit the Corsa Touring?

Sorry for the length.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Blackwing for intake(about $200). TPIS headers perform well and are reasonable priced. I have both. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Corvette's throttle body's are "fly by wire". There isn't a throttle cable attached. My GF has FLP's on her '01 Z06 and they are nice.

Is the Blackwing intake the best for the vettes.. or is there something better? My dad wants to get the intake done very soon... but I am also trying to find other parts for him.

Definitely want any feedback... especially about the intake!!!

Blackwing owners will tell you its the best, as Halltech owners will tell you theirs is the best, and Vortex owners will refute them all and say theirs is the best.

I say Blackwing or Vortex or even the VaraRam ("ram air" intake that pulls air from the airdamn) for the intake. As for the headers, yeah TPIS seems to be one of the most "common" C5 headers, but there are some others (i cannot think of any right off the top of my head). And you can get a larger TB or even a larger MAF, all will help just like on the LS1 4th gens. And talk to either bassani or mufflex about the Xpipe. Mufflex does "custom" exhaust systems w/ mandrel bent piping of your desired diameter.

Overall, rummage through the sponsers over to the right of the board, you'll find just about anything your heart desires over there.

I have the halltech intake, but I would go with the vortex or vararam. There is not much difference in the three as far as performance. The vararam looks the best, and probably slightly out performs the rest. If the blackwing has not changed it is still pulling air from the engine compartment instead of a forced cool air like the others. On the headers I would go with the Stainless works they are about $900 and are the best out there other than the LG's which are about $1900 without the cats. I have some used short tube headers I would sell for $350.The X-pipe will not pick up any HP and maybe 2-3 pounds of TQ, it will change the sound and take out some of the popping you get with the corsa. I would port the MAF ends (I have an extra set of ported ends if interested) I would not change the TB. Check out the parts for sale section on the www.corvetteforum.com for the corvette specific stuff. The guys will be able to tell you who has the best prices at the time.
Good luck, Dale

I agree that Blackwing or Vortex will work well and be semi-reasonable in price

As far as intakes go the above are all good. the cheapest which nets you the same power is the factory setup witht he cover removed and the filter tie wrapped to the tray. i have a Vararam and picked up 2 tenths and 2 mph with it.. and only that.. the 00's do benefit with a better MAF.. i would look at the 02 Z06 MAF.. the best out there period.. the intake itself by going to an LS6.. you will see more out of headers than an xpipe... TPIS, FLP, Stainless works seem to be the most popular.. the FLP is full bolt on from the headers to the axle.. no welding necessary... also come with Cats and offroad pipes with Vflanges.. NO leaks...heads lots of porters out there.. depends on what yoru dad is looking for.. MAX hp or just more mid range will depend on cost.. Cams another BIG area... is it automatic? what gears does it currently have? personally if its an auto do a converter and gears.. BIG improvement!! M6... go with the 3.42 at least if they are not currently but i would recommend 3.73 or 3.90 with an M6... and M12 trans (Z06 trans) stay 3.42 unless you want et at the track.. hope this helps...

Wes

Another vote for the 02 ZO6 lid, looks stock works well, the ty-wrap mod is another winner for a total cost of .50....You will freak out when you see how restrictive the stock lid is....

Yeah, 02+ LS6 MAF would be a good best (the 01s have a screen) And for the intake, yeah LS6 intakes are badass...

As to which is cheaper, probably the Vortex, Blackwing, Halltech would be your 3 cheapest (not in any order) with the VaraRam being the most expensive.
