headers and cut-outs?
Who makes cut-outs for the C5 and has anyone seen them on a Corvette? What headers do you guys run/prefer? Do you recommend electronic cut-outs on the vette? I was planning on duel electronic cut-outs after some long tube headers. I have a lowered C5 and my buddy has a single electronic dump past his y-pipe after his long tube's. It sounds awesome on his car, and he said they give him a good hp gain.... What do you guys think

you could always just cut and weld them into your x pipe if you don't mind hacking it up. i don't know if there are any kits specifically for vettes. I had dual cutouts tight after my longtubes on my SS and it sounds amazing. you won't be disappointed if you do it. I didn't have electric cutouts and it was pretty annoying manually taking off the caps. i would imaging it would really suck on a vette since the exhaust is much further tucked in, so i would recommend getting electric cutouts.
As far as what headers to run, Kooks longtubes seems to be the best way to go.

2. In my opinion, electric cutouts are the only way to go. I've had a pair of QTEC electric cutouts on my car for over 2 years and they're still working fine.
3. How much hp you gain with cutouts is dependent upon how restrictive your exhaust system is. Some see big gains while others see very little on the dyno, but I'm not sure the dyno tells the whole story when it comes to cutouts. I think they're worth more at the drag strip than the dyno sheet would indicate. In any case, the "fun factor" involved with them is alone worth their cost!
Here's my setup along with two short video clips of how my car sounds with them open.

That was great info. Thanks a bunch! I'm definately getting the cut outs now. But why do you recommend the tri y's? I have seen them in mags and think they look kinda restrictive compared to LG, etc. Do they compliment the dumps or something?

Do you guys think that QTEC cutouts will work well with LG Pro long tube headers? I was checking and the x-pipe right past the collector would have to be cut out, but it might work. I'm just wondering how well!!!!

I like the QTP's because they fit well, are stainless steel, and because I have always been a believer in the Tri-Y design. They aren't as popular as some of the others, but those that have them on their Corvettes are making good power with them. However, I don't think you can go wrong with the LG or Kooks headers either so if you prefer one of them, then that's what I'd get.

I'm running TPIS Headers on my 00' C5 and I'm really impressed with the numders and the sound... I thought about cutouts, but my car is lowered and they would scrape...

Does it make a difference with the size 1 3/4 or the 1 7/8 with a car with just bolt on's. I know the 1 7/8 would help a car blown/sprayin. But would they give more power for Z06 with just exaust, tune, intake, xpipe.

I've seen several guys go from 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 headers on their stock displacement motors and they gained 1-3 rwhp and LOST 7-10 rwtq!

Thanks for all the inputs. I'll be buying some exaust as soon as I get my tranny fixed. It just started making noises yesterday. OUCH!!! My next project is the LG longtubes and duel electric cutouts. I can't wait
