Default Anyone Tried These Cheap Polished Filter Kits?

There are a lot of them on E-bay.

There are like 8 to 12 different versions selling right now. Now I was wanting to use the tubing combined with some nice K&N filters for a custom intake for my 99 Trans AM. Really the only question I have is about the 3" tubing these kits are made of. Since the actual air flow through the MAF is actually less than 75mm (3"), would a 3" mandrel bent intake though a coupler (3" to 3.5") be restrictive? I ideally would like a 3.5" intake, but I would have to fabricate it from scratch. I can buy one of these 3" intakes for pretty cheap.
Would it restrict a stock LS1 engine?
Has anyone tried out a 3" intake on a dyno or felt a difference?
I really need to know.
Thanks.

I have no idea how it would work on a TA, but in a vette, it will give you a faster sounding intake but little else. On a dyno you may get a few hp more or you may lose a few hp. The vette (and probably the TA) makes more hp by getting colder more dense air into the engine. There are several CAI systems out there which will make HP

Also, the twin intake systems often have problems on decel and idle. The PCM does a lean/rich cycle because of the air fluctuations.

I don't see how a twin filter setup would effect decel and idle. Do you mean the 2 air streams coming together from different directions? I don't know, would it effect it badly, like not wanting to idle or the idle speed flunctuating? I've never heard of this.

I have 2 of the stock MAF air screens that straighten the air before going through the MAF. I was thinking of installing them right before the V. One screen may be restrictive, but 2 should not be at all. I think the 2 air streams may converge a little better, but I don't know.

No one has mentioned this about the Volant:

Or the Granatelli Twin filter kit, have they?:

Are these 2 filter setups shunned?

I think I found a 3.5" kit, so most of my questions may be moot at this point.

If anyone knows about the twin filter setups causing idle or decel problems, let me know.

I have had the RM racing twin filter setup on my vert for over three years and have not had any problems. car runs great. I am also running with the maf screen removed.

I had to look up the RM. Yea, that's pretty much the same thing. I wouldn't think it would have any negative effects on the engine. As long as the tubes are hollow without any air straightening fins, I think it is pretty much the same as the e-bay ones, except it has high quality K&N filters.

I just can't see spending $300+ on those high end vette systems when the tubes are the same as the cheaper ones. Spend $65 or so on a cheap one and then spend about $60 more for a pair of K&N filters. Bam! Half price and polished to boot. See what I'm getting at?

To make it fit my TA will require a special selection of parts and mods. I think I have it figured out.
