Default Bad accident what a waste of life

"Friday, July 29, 2005
FRANKLIN LAKES - A Westchester County man died Thursday afternoon in a crash on Route 287.

Joseph Gianelli, 58 of Irvington, N.Y., was pronounced dead at the scene after his Chevrolet Corvette struck the rear of a tractor-trailer at about 1 p.m., near milepost 65, state police said.

The truck, operated by Clouis Oquinn Jr., 52, of Virginia, was parked on a northbound shoulder when the Corvette plowed into it. Oquinn was not injured, officials said.

The crash was under investigation Thursday evening.

No doubt he was decapitated, and no one will ever know what caused this accident.

Holy mother of GOD ! It just shredded that car! More than likely, he fell asleep at the wheel. Very sad...

Ya I don't think they will ever find out what really happened in this one. That sucks that it had to happen. I will be willing to bet that the police will report later that speed was a contributing factor. Like we couldn't figure that out ourselves.

Its hard to tell. If the semi was setting still that could be a 50 mph accident. Its hard to tell from the pics and no measurements though. But since it was off the traveled portion of the road its hard to tell. He could have had a stroke from such a powerfull powerfull car.

Im with you on that. Accidents are scary as hell. I use to help a buddy that worked for a towing company. I remember going to an accident where a lady was killed by a piece of **** drunk driver. That Vette is bad but I saw a car that was worse. It involved a drunk teenage girl and a semi, going head on. She was fighting with her BF on the phone and cut the wheel into oncoming traffic. She hit the rear axles of the semi trailer ripping them off. The motor and tranny where out of the car with the engine in one place and the tranny in another. The tranny was so magled that the housing was completely pulled off and the inside gears were exposed. I just saw the aftermath, thank fully, I would hate to have seen the body.

Yep, looks like the guy is still in the car, if that is his left arm just to the left of the front license plate (now located behind the driver's seat). Must be, the pics are before anything was done at the scene, with the exception of covering whatever bodypart is behind the car (yellow sheet and black visual barrier).

Like said before, must have fell asleep and died quickly since he didn't even bring his arms up to protect his face, which is a natural reaction.

Wow. When you see something like it gives a wake up call. I hope to god he didnt suffer. Quick and painless if he fell asleep. There was a bad accident down in Georgia about little over a month ago. My good friends parents where driving a truck with a full camper on the back heading to Florida. A family of 5 pulled out in front of them from the shoulder lane and they killed everybody in the car except a 11 year old kid. Tragic and the friends of mine are still all shaken up inside about it.

That sucks! The poor guy could have had a medical condition or possibly had a heart attack and was no doubt unconcious. There isn't any sign of skid marks either.

I hate to say this but that looks like brain matter on the door of the trailer and what is left of his head is more than likely under the yellow tarp.

My heart goes out to him and his family .

It's a very unfortunate incident but atleast nobody else was hurt of killed.

That just sucks. I drive a rollback *towtruck* and have seen a few things like this. We had a trooper rearend a rig like that a couple months back responding to a shooting call. He was going 100+ on I-70 and the truck was stopped in the fast lane over a slight hill to protect a broke down motorest in that lane.
