I think the C6 looks a lot better that a C5 Z06 personally. When I see a C5 on the road (even a Z06) it just looks old to me now that the C6's are out. Performance wise a C5 Z06 would be better.

WHY?

Well I prefer the look of the fastback over the C5 Z06. And in all honesty the C6 is probably a better car than the C5, as it is a development of it. Plus it's newer and has a better interior.

As for peroformance, well the C6 ain't no slouch. And lets face it who's going to keep either car STOCK.

At the end of the day the C6 is 6.0 compared to 5.7 for the C5 Z06.

C5 Z06 is nice, but I'd take a C6 Z51 MN6 every time over one.

EXCEPT if cost is a factor then the C5 Z06 becomes more appealing
The cost isn't that much different. When the new C6 pics started appearing, I was very interested...then I saw one in person. Three weeks later I bought the new Z. To me the body style was more appealing JMHO

If it was between a 02-04 Z06 or a C6, I would choose the Z06. Regular C5 or C6, the C6.

I'm currently looking at a (19Kmi) 04 Z06 (Quicksilver). I like ALL vettes from each era, and I do like the new look too, but my favorite is the C5 (although the C6's may grow on me to the point that I'll have to trade up one day, but for now, taking everything into consideration, I'm staying with the 02-04Z; as there are still good deals on them making them quite a bit less $$$ than the C6's. I personally don't think I can go wrong with either.

I really appreciate the insight and all of your opinions.

i have a c5 z06 and it runs awesome. i have a tune and an intake. i am pulling low 12's 12.19 to 12.4 in 85 degree AZ weather at night. the DA was 4500 ft. so a little work and the Z06 is fast. Plus the flip up headlights say Corvette like the date cyclops on a Rolex says Rolex!

The c5 z06 is a legendary car, with a reputation built on COMPLETE DOMINATION on the race track.

The only reason to pay more for a c6 would be if you like the new styling or the interior closer to a bmw. I like a plain-jane interior for a muscle car, and I prefer the c5's more American styling. Plus the FRC look is perfect, looks more balanced than the hatch.

hahaha, I can't believe this one came back! Funny thing being the OP is that I'm still undecided, although the 08's definitely have my attention!

I'm very impressed though with the 08's with simple headers, intake and tune...crazy numbers...near Z06 rwhp

Don't get me wrong, if I could see spending what it takes to get a C6Z, that's exactly what I'd get. I just can't separate that much $$$ from my bank.

The C6 mn6 is usualy running 12.8-13.2 at 108-110 mph...

With a tune it can be in the 12.4-12.6 range at 110-113 mph (removing tourque management)

There are many many many many C6 owners who can not do better than 13.0 all over the US...mn6 and auto..

From what Ive read about 35% of the people make it to 12's...

12.4 is currently the record that I know of bone stock..

The other 65% who dont make it run 13.0-13.2 at 107-109 mph.

This car is certainly a mixed bag.

Also there have benn numerous reports of broken rears from launching ON THE STOCK TIRES!!!!

So you may get one that runs 12.7 at 111 mph...Or you may get one that runs 13.2 at 108....

Your rear end may take the track launches or it may not...

If you get the Z06 your getting a proven car that WILL put you in the 12's..

12.5-12.7 at 113-115 is the norm for a Z06... The slowest ones run 12.7-12.9 at 110-112 mph...

On the stock tires nonthing will break...

I prefer the C5 styling much more. It has more character in the front. The C6 looks like any other car from the front...

But that push button start and paddle shift makes it very tempting for me....

NOW TO THE MOST IMPORTANT REASON TO GET THE Z06....

The fist thing people ask you when they find out you have a corvette is if it's a Z06...

When you say no you see some of the enthusiasm go out of there face...

Even though Ive got 370 rwhp ( ls6 heads, tr 224/224 cam, vararam )and just beat a Z06 with an air intake at the track this past Friday.....

I still cant say I have a Z06...

And the C6 will be no different.....Oh Man you have a corvette???!!!

Yea...

IS IT THE Z06???????

NAA...It's the coupe....

Oh ok...

Having a C6 over a C5 dosent mean anything....To everyone else it's just a simple change with a little more HP and fixed head lights...

people always ask me if my C5's the C6.......Even people at the track who no cars..

Unless they see it from the front.....They think there the same....

Just some small differances from 04-05....

But the Z06 is totaly different...

The Z06 from 2001-2004 has built it's self one of the best reputations of any car in the world from it's success at the drag strip to it's success as a track car.

SORRY I HAVE A BAD PROBLEM OF TALKING TO MUCH...SHOULDA LEFT IT ALONE WHEN I SAID COULDNT HAVE SAID IT BETTER MY SELF.
I agreee!!!! I love my 2002 Z06!!!!

The dilemma goes on... lol

But I'm right there w/ ya. Keep contemplating. Mostly because you can get better financing with new/newer models.

But in the end.. I still want a '03-'04 Z06. Just waiting for spring. Then my coupe is up on the chopping block and my garage floor will be prepped for the Z06.

wow, it amazes me how many people think that the stock C6 is comparable to a 02-04 Z06. Gears are different, trans is different total car is different. my neighbor has a C6 and has longtube headers, tune and intake against my Z06 with tune and intake and his best 1/4 mile is 12.5 to my 12.19!

Lot more difference than most think! Plus the badge is what really defines it all! Z06 until i got rid of the base model and got my Z06 i was a disbeliever as well! Not any more!
