Default Need Some Advice

I found a "Katrina" car - 2005 C6 coupe loaded with fewer than 5k on the odometer. I haven't had the opportunity to drive it yet. The seller says everything works except the memory seats and the passenger seat Airbag sensor. Additionally he said, it was lightly flooded, as in just an inch or two at most of water. The car looks to be in excellent condition.

What are your thoughts on making a purchase like this? It would be a third car and just for fun really but I do want something reliable and that won’t be problem some. Before buying I will take it to a local Vette shop for a look over… Your advice and comments are greatly appreciated.

Finally, what would be a fair offer for something like this? After all it’s not warrantable and the title would be stamped with Flood/Salvage.

THANKS!!!!

I would be very nervous... you never know what kind of hidden issues are yet to pop up... storm cars can have problems years down the road from corrosion of electrical circuts, connections.... etc. Even given a clean bill of helth from a dealer I would still be nervous.... If you can afford to fix issues later that might pop up than do it if the price is right and your willing to deal with anything that might pop up... But I would pass unless the price was really really low...

I agree 100% They're still going to be wanting quite a bit of coin for the car no matter what; just be cautious as you might be getting into a car with a future of many problems. But...on the other hand, if the dealer is stating the whole truth, then you might get a nice ride for a decent price??? If you're a gambling man...go for it, but like Nautilus said, it better be at a phenomenal price!

The C-5 has MORE electronics than a cadilac and when that stuff gets submerged in water usualy its never right again! but you might be the exception!

I would not want any part of a "Jaque Cousteau Edition" Corvette...too many electronics..they are never the same after you get them wet..if you buy it be prepared for the oncomming problems down the road..nobody loves that car..if you buy it you will have a hard time selling it..believe me.. you will want to sell it..

Well...I agree with the above comments. Your all right, and you should always becarful, when buying even a known good car.

That said. I just repaired my own car, that was involved in flood damage(a weird flash flood that happened in a matter or 2 1/2 hours at a party). It took about a month of work, to get her right again. I replaced ALOT of relays, and the BCM ended up getting replaced about 3 times in the process. The carpets where replaced. As well as BOTH door modules. Everything else...actually worked. But, like I said, it took about a month, granted, some of that time was spent on waiting for supplimental checks. I never got to really live with the car after the problem, since she blew up but, I was more then confident in myself, and the other technicians here at work that poured they're time and energy into trying to get her running again.

The C6, however, has alot more gadgets in her,....so, I would THINK(again, i'm not scientist) that it would be more prone to a possible problem, if any.

The bottom line, how much can you pick this car up for? And if the GM dealership approves the car for sale, i'd lean towards the car being ok for you.

If the price is awesome, it may be a good buy. Food for thought, my car was covered in water, halfway up the wheels. Which put a POOL of water in my car,....which took up the entire floorboard, and the bottom of the seat arear was covered as well in water(in the lowest spot).

Where is the car located? And where was it when it was damaged? Was the area completely UNDERWATER or was it like the dude said, only a "couple of inches"?

If the seat modules don't work, and the air bag doesn't as well.....damage to the BCM is what the problem could be. And the airbag module,...I belive SITS ON TOP of the TUNNEL(infront of the shifter, underneath the radio area).....soo, water MAY, or MAY not have been more then a couple of inches.

Best wishes brother.

And if you do get it, spray all the connectors with an electrical conductive spray.

Turn around and run away as fast as you can and keep looking. It's not worth it.
