Looking at a 98 covertible?
Looking at a 98 convertible? Hey guys, I want a cheap vette to play with and I found a 98 covertible for $15,000. The bad thing is it has 185,000 miles but seems to have normal wear and tear cosmeticly. I want to test drive the car and get it on a lift to check everything out to make sure it hasn't been abused to bad. My question is what should I look for mechanically on a car with this high milage? I don't have a lot of experience with ls1's with milage this high.

Wow bro. That is a lot of miles to spend on a car that you know nothing about. I would say it would be worth your while to get one with less miles for more money. If you have one major problem you will already have spent more than you would've on even a 100k car. You can get 100k cars for close to that. I learned my lesson when I bought a 1992 vr4 and spent 12k in repairs. the car had 198,000 when I bought it and then 3k miles later it was in the shop. Then again, then again. So I wouldn't advise it.
Now then again, this car could be decently maintained so It might do great. I have a friend with 169,000 on his right now and he has barely ever had to do anything (column lock, ac unit, windshield wiper motor), so send us some pics and take it somewhere and then look for a better car. I'm sure you can get a better deal, not knocking the car you are looking at (old vettes need love too
