Soon to be a Vette owner... got some Q's...
I dont know much about chevys and have questions:
How many hp the c5 ls1 has?
whats the difference between 97-98-99-01 interior and exterior?
Whats frc?
I'm looking at a 97 hatch back red and black rims, 63k miles 6spd, heads/cams, zo6 intake, l/t headers, catless x pipe, borla exhaust, cai, t/b, upgraded mass air, zo6 calipers and air ducts, they are asking $22k... is this a fair price?
How many rwhp will this combo make?
Thanks in advance.
From 97-99 the C5 came with the ugly "wagon wheels" on it, from 00-04 it got the much nicer looking wheels. A lot of 97-99 owners upgrade to those nicer wheels though, so that's always a nice bonus when you find one like that (I got lucky as mine came with the nicer rims in chrome too!)
There weren't a lot of major changes on the C5 during it's lifespan. The 97s and 98s are pretty similar for the most part, although active handling (AKA stability control) became optional late in the 98 model year. Heads up display became an option in 99.
As mentioned, 2001 saw a horsepower boost, as well as more torque. This was mostly due to the addition of the LS6 intake. It also got revised computer programming and different injectors that year.
The only exterior difference (other than the wheels) came about in 2000, when they eliminated the passenger side key hole.

That way some of us could give you a more educated guess. With no help at all, I could say 400 rwhp to 480 rwhp. You run a big enough cam with the right heads, and exhaust with intake 500 + rwhp is possible. I did 473 rwhp 431 rwtq and my tune isn't 100% . There are a few things I can do. Should max at 480/435 rwhp/rwtq
Good luck, by the way, ask if the car has a dyno sheet, or ask to get her dyno'd to verify HP/TQ

I test drove a new cobra, and then my '99 C5 coupe and immediately fell in love with and bought the vette. I've since sold the '99 and upgraded to a C6.
the driving experience between the mustang and corvette can hardly be compared.
that's a top of the line price for that model, but if it's clean and runs good you won't be disappointed. based on the pic you've posted and the mods, the car looks like it's worth it to me.
the only difference I've noticed on early vs late model C5's is that 2000 and up didn't come with the wagon wheels, and they got rid of the exterior lock on the passenger side door.
keep in mind, LS1 engines aren't really considered 'broke in' till they get around 30k on the clock, and they love mods.
good luck!
here is a pic of the car with black wagon rims..... sweeeeet
