97 vette vs 2000 Camaro SS

c5 vs ss
I say go for it. My true all stock 97 c5 a4 w/3.15 takes a 04 c5 6sp all day long from a stop; at around 30 mph I lose. If the $50 is to much for you then haggle him a bit. Sell him on the fact he doesn't need $ to race because he is a winner either way. He beats you he wins, you beat him he wins cause he can then say I raced a vette and barely lost. (That is what he will tell people at least) Have fun.

A lot of the times that I see guys with M6 F-bodies at the track they have difficulty running quicker than 13.7s unless they have done a lot of drag racing. A lot of novices can't even get into the 13s. But with a 2.73 geared automatic you just floor it and away you go.

yea way to many variables it really depends on the cars and the drivers.. some stock auto vettes put down 280 some do 310+
from a roll i'd def put $ on the SS
from a dig, get a stall converter and tires and you should win

FWIW, in 1998 I managed to run a 13.08 at 108.7 with my old 6 speed 98 Formula, with just free mods and an MTI airbox and still on the stock GSCs (with a 2.00 60ft time). But it took a lot of practice with the car before I got it running that well. My first trip to the track (when the car was one week old and not broken in) netted me a 13.68 at 102.9.

I'm not saying it's impossible to run low 13s, I'm just saying that most novice drivers can't do it, and when you go to the track with 50 f-bodies, there might be 4 or 5 guys out of the bunch who really know how to launch and shift a 6 speed car well enough to get it to run it's full potential. The rest just cannot do it.

Don't jump on Patman, It sounds like he knows a little something about cars. I have a 2002 SS, and when I first bought it I ran 3 passes, all 3 of them were 13.7s using the G-Tech, and I was B.O.N.E stock. Since then I have done some small mods, all bolt on, no mas, tb, or pullies. I now run 8.4-8.5 in the 1/8th. Some of us from the Mid-Iowa Camaro Club (www.midiowacamaroclub.com) are going to Cedar Falls Raceway in July which is a 1/4 mile in Iowa, so we'll see what I run now.

my bone stock A4 vette will go 13.0 all day long in 85 degree weather on run flats but i have 3.15's from factory, so maybe with your gearing your like a 13.4 you should have no problem just launch from exactly 1k rpm and you should have no problem if the other guy isnt john force your going up against!
