Default Cam advice

I have a 2000 C5 with basic bolt ons and am thinking about doing a cam. What are you guys using and what kind of real world (not just dyno) results are you getting?

Do you have to pass emissions???

For tried and true street use the 224/224 cams are proven!

i've installed a bunch in F-bodies, C5's and C6's; expect to pick up at least 50whp, most cam only cars have put down 400rwhp, recent C6 made 419rwhp; MS3/TSP 243's/ud/Fast90 on a 2000 FRC put down 446rwhp

real world? no track numbers yet

I don't have to pass emissions. I was talking to John from TSP and he was saying a 228/228 cam with a 114 LSA. I want to make power without sacrificing any drivability and keeping a smooth idle. Here are my choices thus far...MTI Stealth Stage 1, TSP 228/228 or 233/239 or the Torquer v.2 232/234 cam. Keep in mind.....smooth idle, no sacrificing streetability, and power. I do drive this car regularly during the weekends with a little bit of racing. Definitely not a race car.

Something like a 250/255 on a 108 LSA should get it done. Dont get anything less than .650 lift or it wont run right.

The only other mod you'll need is a 454 Warhawk.

none of those cams is going to give you a "smooth" idle... Are you sure you want to do a cam???

If you want to keep a smooth idle, you have to be willing to give up quite a few ponies

MTI says that their Stealth cam retains stock idle due to a 115 LSA. TSP tells me that their 228R cam with 114 LSA will have a bit of a choppier idle than stock but nothing horrible and no drivability loss at all. I think that is what I am going to go with.....any experiences/comments on that cam selection.

Choppy Idle FTW.

Buy my Torquer 2 on a 112+2 LSA and pick it up for 300 shipped.

I think my setup is very drivable. I love my G5X3 cam. Cam and FAST 78mm added 70 rwhp and 50 rwtq. I also get great gas mileage on the E-way, but terrible in the city. Read my sig and you'll see the rest. I did drive cam only for 4 months and loved it. Just wanted to see what she would do with heads, pully, and ewp as well. Car is also set up for the next motor, 408, Procharger, good amount of boost. Good luck finding a cam that makes power, and idles smooth.

that g5x3 is going to suck on a FI application. you should get the G5XB if you put that procharger on.

I am running an older Thunder Cam 230/224 575/563 111LSA. This gives a Lopey idle (Which I like) idles about 875 MN6 tranny. I am due for a dyno tune early July so I am hoping for a few more HP.

Track wise, I can only post times with Goodyear F1GSD3'. Best to date is a 12.3X@113.6, 60' was a 1.95. Since I have added HP my factory clutch is not holding the DR's under WOT. Once the clutch is swapped I fully expect to hit the 11.9X's with out any issues. I have run in the 12.3's many times on street tires which really surprised me.

Good luck...

my car is in the shop now having the 228R installed along with the LS7 clutch, AFR heads milled .020 off, and today I ordered 3.90 gears just for fun.

It should be fun
