What is this thing? (98 C5 underhood item)
Hi Folks -
I pulled the intake off of a friends this 98 MN6 coupe today to replace the oil pressure sending unit, and to check the vacuum hookups.
We found this little item (pictured below) on the left side rear valve cover nestled under the fuel injector harness.
Notice that the vacuum hookup (indicated by the white arrow) was taped up and was not hooked to anything.
We looked at my wifes 99 coupe and it does not have this unit, nor was it mentioned in my 2002 service manuals.
Here are the pics - if you know what it is I'd appreciate some info.
best regards -

Thanks -
So it should be plumbed into the EVAP purge solenoid?
It is not plumbed to anything on this car, and the EVAP purge solenoid is present on my 2002 Z06 and my 1999 coupe but this purge switch is not.
My 2002 Helms manuals do not show this item nor is it mentioned in the manuals (as stated in my first post).
I am perplexed as this component did have a vacuum leak on the 98 I worked on, and yet the car runs fine and did not show any codes.
I plugged the line and the car runs beautifully, but I was concerned that this componenet was lying on the side of the rocker cover and was not seeming hooked up.
I appreciate your reply (here and at CF).

Thank you - I would very much appreciate the picture showing how to hook this switch up - I just hate putting a car back together with something like this not hooked up.
Thanks for your reply - you nailed it for us!

I have the same question
I have a 98 Corvette and I was putting it back together after pulling the intake to change the oil pressure switch and found that 2 of the 3 ports on my evap purge switch did not have anything connected. The one you cannot see in these pictures is Teed into the pipe between the evap solenoid and wherever it goes into the firewall. I assume to the evap canister. The other 2 look exactly like in the picture. One looks like it could just be a vent but the one with the L shaped hose looks like it should go somewhere. I have the preliminary service manuals but none of the illustrations I can find in there show any detail about these 2 ports.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi,
I have a 98 convertible and I'm getting gas vapor smells when in gear slowing down. I believe it is coming form this same part. Did you have any resolution with this? Mine lays beneath the fuel rail on it's side with that tube pointed towards the firewall.
